Why I Decided To Get An MBA
As I mentioned in the beginning, I came up with the idea for this guide when I was going through the application process myself. At that time, I realized that the application was like no other professional graduate school application in that it asked you questions well beyond just your professional goals. In the process of preparing, I dug deep into what I really wanted and came up with what I believed was the right reasoning for me to get an MBA.
I had a great job and high paying salary prior to business school but felt I needed to understand the business landscape better, especially from the perspective of different industries and globally. I believed that no matter what I did in the future, the knowledge of how different businesses work and the management decisions that make them successful would be invaluable to me. Although I had an idea of what I wanted to do career wise after an MBA, my main reasoning for attending business school were the unique
experiences, alumni network and diverse knowledge that I felt I couldn’t have gained just working in my current job at the time.
I know there are those people who got their MBAs and then complained it didn’t help them. I would only say that perhaps their heart was not in it from the beginning. If you start reasoning your decision based on ROI calculators and articles that people write, then you could set yourself up for a similar disappointment. Your decision to get an MBA should be something you truly feel passionate about.
