"Preparing early for the MBA application is the
first step. How you prepare is the key to getting
accepted." | Many MBA applicants make the mistake of not
preparing early enough. When I say early, I mean preparing
years before you apply. Most applicants believe
that hiring an essay consultant and working on essays for
several months is the best that they can do. This is far
from the truth. In fact, by the time you begin the application
process, your chances of getting accepted by the top schools,
are for the most part, already determined. You see, although
it is important to write great essays, what makes you really
stand out is all of the great accomplishments that you have
done over the years. |
 |
No amount of money spent on essay consultants and time
spent writing can make up things that you never did!
Assuming that you have the time to prepare, how do you do
it? Unlike other graduate school applications where the
majority of the focus is on your academic performance in
undergraduate college, the MBA application is focused on what you do
from the time you graduate college to the time you submit your
application. The key to getting accepted lies in what you accomplish
within that time.
Why I wrote this guideThe inspiration for this guide came
to me during my own MBA application process. I realized that
most of the books and advice out there revolved around last minute
strategies, essay services and GMAT preparation courses. They
were all focused on how to best present your application given
what you have already. This is analogous to an
automobile body shop fixing the outside of a car without
fixing the engine. What I want to do is show you how to fix
the engine so that you can go into the application process a
stronger candidate to begin with. I don't focus on tricks or
short-cuts that attempt to make you look like a superstar in the
application. I present a framework and concepts that if
applied to your daily life, will help make you into a superstar.
Who is this guide for? This guide is for anyone planning to
apply for an MBA degree. The concepts discussed inside are most
useful for applicants who have at least 6 months to prepare prior to
the deadline of the application.
What is contained in the guide and how do I use it?To be
successful, you need to read this guide several times, internalize
the concepts and apply them to your daily life. The following
are the topics contained inside:
- I describe the entire decision process around getting an MBA.
What are your career and life goals? Why do you want to get an
MBA? Which schools should you apply to? Which parts of the
application are important to focus on?
- There are common themes that most essay questions center
around. I describe the 4 areas of focus that are most
important and why.
- People who accomplish extraordinary things share similar
attributes. I describe 6 internal attributes that
enable you to be successful in whatever you do.
- Simply being successful and accomplishing great things is not
good enough. Business schools look for your accomplishments
in certain realms. I describe the 4 realms where you need to
apply your efforts.
- Finally, I present a framework that puts all of the concepts
together and apply it to a set of essay questions.
What is not in this guide? This guide does not discuss how
to get high GMAT scores or how to write essays from a grammatical
and structural point of view. There are already many great
services out there that. You can find them online.
What if I already have other MBA books and guides?Anyone
serious about applying to business school will have read many books
and guides on the topic. You need to combine information and
advice from various sources to be competitive. With that
said, the information in this guide is unique and valuable to
the applicant who has some time to prepare. My framework and
concepts are original, copyrighted and can not be found anywhere
else.
